  • ELECTIVE Courses
  • In the era of data science and cloud, every enterprise is required not only to provide fast and accurate information, but also to utilize existing data collections to be processed into information that can be utilized by the enterprise manager or other enterprises. Therefore, the need for human resources as data scientists who are able to handle information and process and analyze data sets properly and correctly is a must. In addition, to anticipate the needs of both public and private institutions that will send their employees to attend further education in the field of data science without having to interfere with their work, special arrangements need to be made for both the implementation and the lecture material.

In line with these objectives, starting in the 2017/2018 academic year, the Master of Computer Science Study Program opened a special class program, namely the Special Class of the Master of Computer Science Program to meet the needs of reliable personnel in the field of data science handling. These graduates will obtain a Master of Computer Science degree abbreviated as M.Cs.

  • The special Master of Computer Science program can be taken in 3 to 4 semesters. To be able to graduate and obtain the M.Cs. degree, students must have completed 42 credits of courses consisting of 18 credits of compulsory courses and 24 credits of elective courses. The structure of the courses that must be taken each semester is presented in the Table. The course structure is designed to be taken over 3 semesters, but it is possible for students to take the 4th semester to repeat the compulsory courses and other elective courses. In the first semester, students are required to take 18 credits consisting of 9 credits of compulsory theory courses and 9 credits of elective courses. Furthermore, in the second semester, students are required to take 4 compulsory courses, namely 2 credits of Thesis Proposal, 6 credits of compulsory interest courses if not taken in the previous semester, and can take a maximum of 9 credits of elective courses. In the third semester, students are required to take 2 compulsory thesis courses, namely Thesis Seminar and Thesis. The course structure of the Master of Computer Science Study Program can be seen in the following table.

  • Elective courses are provided by several research laboratories within the Department of Computer Science and Electronics, namely Algorithms and Computation Laboratory (AC), Intelligent Systems Laboratory (IS), Software and Data Engineering Laboratory (SDE), Computer and Network Systems Laboratory (CNS), and Electronics and Instrumentation Laboratory (Elins). All elective courses will be offered in each semester. However, due to certain reasons or technical considerations, elective courses may not be available or may be canceled for the concerned semester.

Elective courses are divided into 3, namely specialization courses, supporting courses, and publication elective courses. specialization courses are courses that are required of students in accordance with the areas of research interest related to certain graduate profiles consisting of four fields, namely data science, computational science, computer systems and information management. Meanwhile, supporting courses are supporting courses that can be selected according to the thesis research topic.
