Lab Elektronika Dasar DIKE UGM Terapkan IoT Berbasis ESP32 dalam Kegiatan Praktikum Mahasiswa

Yogyakarta, 24 Juni 2025 – Laboratorium Elektronika Dasar Departemen Ilmu Komputer dan Elektronika (DIKE) FMIPA UGM menerapkan teknologi Internet of Things (IoT) berbasis mikrokontroler ESP32 dalam kegiatan praktikum mahasiswa. Penerapan ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pengalaman kepada mahasiswa dalam merancang dan mengembangkan sistem elektronik cerdas yang terhubung, sekaligus memperkenalkan aplikasi teknologi yang relevan dengan kebutuhan industri saat ini.

Kegiatan praktikum dilaksanakan dalam dua sesi utama yang dirancang untuk memperkenalkan arsitektur dasar IoT. Pada sesi pertama, mahasiswa menggunakan ESP32 sebagai perangkat client yang terhubung ke internet untuk mengambil data gempa bumi secara real-time dari situs resmi BMKG. Melalui praktik ini, mahasiswa mempelajari cara mengakses data menggunakan protokol HTTP, mengolah data dalam format JSON, dan menampilkannya melalui Serial Monitor. Serta memberikan pemahaman tentang bagaimana perangkat kecil dapat dimanfaatkan dalam sistem monitoring yang akurat dan aktual.

Sesi berikutnya mahasiswa belajar untuk mengembangkan ESP32 sebagai server lokal. Dalam skenario ini, mahasiswa merancang halaman web sederhana yang dapat digunakan untuk mengendalikan dua LED secara nirkabel melalui jaringan WiFi. Dengan pendekatan ini, mahasiswa mempelajari konsep dasar sistem kendali jarak jauh dan komunikasi client-server, yang menjadi dasar dalam pengembangan teknologi rumah pintar maupun sistem otomasi industri.

Praktikum ini juga dimaksudkan untuk menumbuhkan keterampilan teknis mahasiswa, seperti pemrograman mikrokontroler, komunikasi jaringan, dan sistem tertanam. Selain itu, pendekatan pembelajaran ini mendorong mahasiswa untuk berpikir kritis dalam melihat potensi aplikasi teknologi terhadap kebutuhan di masyarakat. Mahasiswa tidak hanya membangun prototipe, tetapi juga diajak untuk memahami fungsi sosial dari sistem yang mereka rancang.

Melalui integrasi IoT dalam praktikum, kegiatan ini turut mendukung pencapaian Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (SDGs). Pada SDG 9 (Industri, Inovasi, dan Infrastruktur), mahasiswa belajar mengembangkan sistem digital yang responsif dan terpercaya untuk mendukung kemajuan teknologi. Untuk SDG 11 (Kota dan Komunitas yang Berkelanjutan), proyek ini membuka peluang pengembangan sistem pemantauan lingkungan dan kontrol energi cerdas. Sementara itu, kontribusi terhadap SDG 13 (Penanganan Perubahan Iklim) terlihat dari penggunaan sistem real-time untuk pemantauan bencana serta efisiensi energi melalui sistem kendali perangkat.
