Mahasiswa MKA DIKE UGM Kembangkan AI untuk Klasifikasi Aksara Jawa, Dukung Pelestarian Warisan Budaya

Yogyakarta, 10 Oktober 2025 – Mahasiswa Magister Kecerdasan Artifisial (MKA) Departemen Ilmu Komputer dan Elektronika (DIKE) FMIPA Universitas Gadjah Mada, Widya Amelia Putri dan Ismi Nurul Na’imah, di bawah bimbingan Dr. Dyah Aruming Tyas, S.Si., berhasil mengembangkan model Deep Learning berbasis Transfer Learning untuk klasifikasi aksara Jawa (Nglegena). Riset ini bertujuan mendukung upaya pelestarian aksara Jawa melalui pendekatan teknologi modern yang akurat dan adaptif di era digital.

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh masih rendahnya akurasi model klasifikasi aksara Jawa dalam penelitian terdahulu, yang umumnya berada di bawah 90%. Kondisi ini kontras dengan aksara tradisional lain seperti Devanagari, Thailand, dan Hiragana yang telah mencapai akurasi di atas 90%. Dalam pengembangannya, tim memanfaatkan tiga arsitektur Transfer Learning, yaitu VGG16, VGG19, dan InceptionResNetV2, dengan berbagai kombinasi learning rate (1e-4, 1e-5, 1e-6) dan jumlah epoch (50 dan 100). Dari hasil serangkaian eksperimen, model VGG19 dengan learning rate 1e-4 dan 100 epoch menunjukkan performa terbaik dengan akurasi dan F1-score mencapai 96%. Model ini juga menunjukkan generalisasi yang baik saat diuji pada dataset berbeda, membuktikan bahwa pendekatan yang dikembangkan tidak hanya unggul pada data pelatihan tetapi juga adaptif terhadap variasi bentuk aksara.

Meski demikian, tim peneliti menemukan tantangan pada klasifikasi beberapa karakter dengan bentuk serupa, seperti “ha” dan “la”. Perbedaan visual yang halus menjadi peluang pengembangan lebih lanjut melalui penambahan data latih dan eksplorasi teknik augmentasi yang lebih kaya. Dengan demikian, model diharapkan dapat mengenali pola visual secara lebih mendalam dan konsisten.

Menurut Widya, penggunaan AI dalam pelestarian aksara Jawa merupakan upaya agar budaya tulis tradisional tidak tertinggal di tengah kemajuan teknologi. “Kami ingin menunjukkan bahwa AI tidak hanya untuk kebutuhan industri, tetapi juga bisa menjadi sarana menjaga identitas budaya bangsa melalui digitalisasi dan pengenalan otomatis aksara daerah,” ujarnya.

Penelitian ini telah dipresentasikan pada International Conference on Informatics and Computing (ICIC) 2025 yang diselenggarakan secara daring pada 9–10 Oktober 2025 di Lampung. Inovasi ini turut mendukung pencapaian Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) yaitu SDG 9 (Industri, Inovasi, dan Infrastruktur), SDG11 (Kota dan Permukiman yang Berkelanjutan), serta SDG4 (Pendidikan Berkualitas) melalui penerapan teknologi untuk pelestarian warisan budaya Indonesia.
