Peneliti DIKE UGM Kembangkan Metode Non-Intrusif Deteksi Gelombang Dua-Fase untuk Sistem Pendingin Reaktor Nuklir

Yogyakarta, 21 Juni 2025 – Tim peneliti dari Departemen Ilmu Komputer dan Elektronika (DIKE) bersama Departemen Teknik Mesin dan Industri, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) berhasil mengembangkan metode deteksi gelombang dua-fase yang bersifat non-intrusif dan efisien secara komputasi. Metode ini dirancang khusus untuk kanal sempit dan berperan penting dalam sistem pendingin darurat reaktor nuklir, terutama pada kondisi pasca kecelakaan.

Penelitian ini melibatkan kolaborasi antara Nur Rahmad Yusuf (BAPETEN), Suprapto, Jazi Eko Istiyanto, dan Deendarlianto dari UGM. Hasilnya telah dipublikasikan dalam International Journal of Intelligent Engineering and Systems tahun 2025. Inovasi ini memanfaatkan teknik pemrosesan citra berbasis multi-threshold dan pemisahan gambar (image bisection) untuk mendeteksi batas antarmuka antara cairan dan gas secara akurat, bahkan pada citra berkualitas rendah.

Salah satu tantangan utama dalam sistem pendingin darurat reaktor nuklir adalah mendeteksi ketebalan film cair dan pola gelombang di dalam saluran sempit. Metode yang dikembangkan tim ini berhasil mengatasi tantangan tersebut dengan tingkat akurasi tinggi. Melalui pengujian pada 3000 frame citra hasil perekaman kecepatan tinggi, metode ini mampu menurunkan galat identifikasi gelombang (RMSE) hingga 94,5% dibandingkan dengan metode konvensional. Hal ini membuka peluang untuk  penerapan dalam sistem monitoring secara real-time, seperti yang dibutuhkan pada insiden nuklir besar, termasuk Three Mile Island dan Fukushima.

Secara teknis, metode ini juga mampu beradaptasi dengan geometri kanal sempit serta menunjukkan ketahanan terhadap kualitas citra yang kurang ideal, baik dari segi pencahayaan maupun resolusi. Pada tahap implementasi, program pengolahan citra dikembangkan dengan kemampuan mengatur parameter threshold secara dinamis, untuk mengoptimalkan hasil pemisahan fase pada frame video hasil simulasi fisik. 

Melalui kontribusi ini, DIKE UGM tidak hanya memperkuat peran dalam riset pemrosesan citra industri dan sistem keselamatan reaktor nuklir, tetapi juga mendukung pencapaian Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (SDGs), khususnya SDG 7 (Energi Bersih dan Terjangkau) dan SDG 9 (Industri, Inovasi, dan Infrastruktur). Pendekatan yang dikembangkan membuka peluang penerapan lebih luas untuk mendukung efisiensi dan keamanan energi nuklir secara berkelanjutan.
