Peneliti DIKE UGM Kembangkan Model Pengenalan Wajah yang Mampu Kenali Wajah Seiring Bertambahnya Usia

Yogyakarta, 16 Juni 2025 – Peneliti dari Departemen Ilmu Komputer dan Elektronika (DIKE), Fakultas MIPA, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) menciptakan model pengenalan wajah yang mampu mengenali wajah seseorang meskipun mengalami perubahan karena pertambahan usia. Inovasi ini akan dipresentasikan dalam forum ilmiah internasional bergengsi yaitu International Workshop on Intelligent System (IWIS) Tahun 2025 yang digelar di Ulsan, Korea Selatan, pada 21–24 Juli 2025.

Tim peneliti terdiri atas Diah Septiani, Wahyono, dan Faisal Dharma Adhinata. Mereka menggabungkan dua jenis fitur utama dalam wajah, yaitu tekstur kulit dan bentuk geometris wajah, seperti posisi mata, hidung, dan mulut. Dengan metode ini, sistem dapat mengenali wajah seseorang yang diambil saat muda dan mencocokkannya dengan wajahnya saat sudah lebih tua. Salah satu alasan efektivitas metode ini terletak pada konsistensi bentuk geometris wajah yang relatif stabil meskipun terjadi perubahan penampilan akibat proses penuaan.

“Kalau biasanya sistem pengenalan wajah gagal mengenali karena wajah sudah berubah, sistem kami tetap bisa mengenali berkat pendekatan gabungan ini,” ungkap Wahyono, dosen sekaligus peneliti utama dalam studi ini.

Dalam pengujiannya menggunakan dataset global FGNET, model ini mampu mencapai akurasi hingga 64%, dengan precision mencapai 69%. Hasil ini lebih baik dibandingkan pendekatan lain yang hanya menggunakan satu jenis fitur. Meski demikian, hasil ini masih perlu dikembangkan lebih lanjut jika ingin diterapkan secara masif pada kebutuhan yang relevan.

Teknologi ini sangat relevan untuk digunakan dalam sistem identifikasi jangka panjang seperti KTP elektronik (e-KTP), di mana foto hanya diambil sekali dan digunakan selama bertahun-tahun. Dengan mempertimbangkan perubahan wajah karena usia, sistem ini bisa membantu menjaga akurasi dan keamanan data identitas.

Penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa UGM kembali menunjukkan kiprah internasionalnya di bidang teknologi dan kecerdasan buatan melalui inovasi yang menyentuh langsung kebutuhan masyarakat. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga berkontribusi pada pencapaian Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) poin ke-16, yakni membangun institusi yang kuat dan inklusif. Teknologi pengenalan wajah yang tahan terhadap perubahan usia bisa memperkuat sistem identitas legal dan perlindungan data pribadi, yang menjadi fondasi penting bagi layanan publik yang adil dan transparan.
