Selangor, 29 July 2026 – Participants from the Department of Computer Science and Electronics (DCSE), Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) attended an academic workshop at Taylor’s University in Selangor, Malaysia. Organized as part of the International Mobility Program, the visit provided participants with a valuable opportunity to explore new technologies and gain global academic perspectives. The activity featured hands-on technical training and interactive discussions designed to enhance digital skills and foster international collaboration.

Upon arrival, the organizing committee provided a warm welcome and handed out tote bags filled with brochures and materials about campus life, academic pathways, facilities, and support services. This easy-going introduction enabled smooth communication and established an open atmosphere. The program then commenced with an interactive session led by Dr. Sayan Kumar Ray, Head of the School of Computer Science. He introduced the school’s academic philosophy, diverse educational offerings, and ongoing research activities. Rather than a traditional lecture, the session encouraged direct dialogue, allowing the delegation to openly explore opportunities for international academic partnerships and cross-border learning.
The core of the program was a practical workshop on Robotic Process Automation (RPA) facilitated by Dr. Naved Ali Khan. He explained how software robots can automate repetitive business tasks to significantly improve operational efficiency and reliability. During the session, the participants utilized UiPath, a leading RPA platform, to design and build their own automation workflows. By identifying simple tasks and applying low-code tools, the delegation gained direct experience in addressing real-world industry challenges and understanding the growing demand for practical digital problem-solving skills and adaptability.

Beyond the technical workshop, the delegation toured the campus to observe a modern educational environment. They explored spacious computer laboratories equipped with diverse operating systems that remain open to students for projects at any time. The campus offers dedicated independent study areas, silent corners for concentrated effort, and collaborative zones for group work. These facilities demonstrate how physical learning spaces are designed not only to build technical expertise but also to cultivate critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork.

This academic exchange at Taylor’s University integrates practical technology training with global networking to encourage the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Providing accessible and industry-oriented training beyond theoretical classroom concepts aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education). Furthermore, introducing RPA as an emerging technology to bridge academia and real industry needs reflects the implementation of SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). The cross-border exchange of knowledge between the two institutions demonstrates a strong commitment to SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). DCSE UGM utilizes these international learning experiences to prepare participants to shape their own paths in technology and contribute to society.
